Implant placement is performed under local anaesthetic. The titanium post is positioned into the jaw according to the digital plan. Most patients find the procedure more manageable than anticipated, with post-operative discomfort typically controlled with standard pain relief. Once placed, the implant enters the osseointegration phase — a period of approximately three to six months during which the post fuses with the surrounding bone. This integration is what gives implants their long-term stability and is not a step that can be shortened without compromising the outcome.
Once osseointegration is confirmed, the abutment — the connector between the post and the crown — is attached, and impressions or digital scans are taken for the final restoration. The crown is colour-matched and shaped to fit naturally within the bite. At Cosmetic Dental, this work is handled by a local dental technician and in some cases may be completed using CEREC CAD/CAM technology in a single appointment. A follow-up appointment is scheduled after fitting to review the result and address any adjustments.
