We place crowns in full porcelain/ceramic, zirconia, porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), and gold alloy. Full porcelain and ceramic offer the most natural translucency and are generally preferred for front teeth. Zirconia combines high strength with good aesthetics and suits both front and posterior positions. PFM provides a strong substructure with a porcelain surface. Gold alloy remains an excellent choice for back molars where longevity under bite force is the priority. Where CEREC is not the right fit — multi-unit cases or certain clinical situations — we follow a two-visit approach. At the first appointment, the tooth is prepared, a digital impression taken, and a temporary crown placed. The crown is fabricated by our preferred local ceramist technicians, whose quality we have tested over many years against overseas labs. At the second visit, the temporary is removed and the permanent crown is bonded, adjusted for fit, and colour-verified.
With proper home care and regular check-ups, high-quality crowns can last many years and in some cases a lifetime. Avoid chewing ice or hard objects, use a non-abrasive toothpaste to preserve the porcelain surface, and continue daily flossing — crowns follow the natural tooth contour and clean the same way.
