Many years ago, dentists had few options to repair decayed and damaged teeth other than amalgam, gold and other metals. However, with CEREC, your dentist can use strong, tooth-coloured ceramic materials to restore your teeth to their natural strength, beauty and function.
These materials closely match the composition of the natural tooth structure. CEREC can be used for more than just crowns and fillings. CEREC is capable of producing any tooth restoration. Chipped and discoloured front teeth can be repaired with natural-looking CEREC porcelain anterior crowns or veneers. And because you only need one visit, CEREC can save you time and money too.

The patient had previously had a crown placed on her lateral front incisor. The patient felt that the metal-ceramic crown made her tooth appear short and it also appeared dark around her gums.
Solution
Create a CEREC crown which lengthens the height of the tooth. This CEREC crown is made of emax which means that there is no metal, it is a full high strength porcelain crown made in one appointment.
The patient had lost his old overlay and wanted a new one so he could eat again.
Solution
Construct a new CEREC crown that was completed on the same day as he presented, this saved the patient time.
A visiting overseas patient has a severe fracture on her tooth and wanted a crown to restore her broken tooth. However, she was only in Auckland for a short period so time was a limiting factor.
Solution
We milled a beautiful CEREC crown on a CAD cam milling machine that matched her existing teeth. The patient was pleased that she did not have to go home with a temporary crown and wait 2 weeks for her crown to be made.
$2,195 each. The cost of dental crowns varies depending on materials. We have tried a number of overseas labs to reduce the cost for patients, but I have found they do not meet the level of quality we can get from the best locally-based ceramist technicians.
Crowns can be made to look so natural they can be mistaken for natural teeth.
Crowns can restore teeth to look their best when in the past the tooth would have been lost. Crowns strengthen, align, and can change the colour of a dark tooth. Placing multiple crowns can transform smiles.
Crowns look natural while helping to align and strengthen teeth. The biggest decision when considering a crown is how much natural tooth reduction is needed and what alternatives there are that use less natural tooth reduction.
To reduce the amount of natural tooth reduction to crown a tooth we consider other methods such as porcelain veneers, porcelain overlays, and porcelain inlays. We can even consider restoring the tooth with composite resin, this material will need the least amount of tooth reduction to restore the tooth. But in many cases crowning the tooth is the best option.
For smile makeovers, it is not uncommon to crown every tooth in the month to give our patients the best smile. We know our patients invest a lot of time and money into their teeth, so it is our nature to make sure all aspects of the crown procedure has been done to the highest standards, plus we give a five-year warranty on material fracture.
Because a crown follows the natural contours of the tooth, regular home care with dental floss, brushing and the other utensils that you use to clean your teeth, along with regular visits to your dentist are all you need to look after your crowns.
